Journeys remembered through words, moments captured through photographs, and stories written by the road.
Some journeys begin with a map.
Mine began with a moment.
About Me
Welcome to The Roaming Pen.
I’m Manoj Kumar, a civil engineer from Kerala who has spent much of his professional life working with multinational companies across India and the Middle East. While engineering shaped my career, travel and photography have always been my deeper passions.
Over the years, my journeys — whether to ancient temple towns, bustling streets, quiet riversides, or forgotten corners of history — have left behind stories that felt too meaningful to remain only in photographs. The Roaming Pen grew from that feeling: a place where I could capture not just places, but the emotions, memories, and reflections that travel quietly leaves behind.
This space is not meant to be a guidebook. Instead, it is my travel diary — a collection of experiences, photographs, stories, and sometimes even poetry inspired by the places I visit and the moments I encounter along the way.
And if there’s one truth behind all of this, it’s a person — a friend whose quiet positivity and selfless love became the compass of my heart. That friend once wrote a simple poem about our friendship — just a few lines — yet somehow that moment awakened the poet in me, if my scribblings in the Poems section can be called so. Ironically, someone who never really read poems somehow began writing them because of that friend.
Every story here, every word I write, carries a little of that inspiration — a reminder that sometimes, it only takes one heart to light another.
Travel teaches us that every place has a story.
Through The Roaming Pen, I simply try to listen to those stories — and share them.
